🏘️ Community
City leaders cut the ribbon on Saturday morning to reopen Durkin Park near Lincoln School on Chelmsford Street after a $720,000 renovation funded by a Community Development Block Grant; the park now features a new playground, renovated basketball court, poured-in-place rubber surfacing, an accessible ramp, and an entry plaza. The park is the first of 11 upgraded parks receiving more than $7 million and will add trees to lower urban heat—improving outdoor spaces for residents.
On November 6, The Salvation Army of Greater Lowell held its 33rd Annual Christmas Castle Breakfast at Lenzi’s in Dracut and honored Paul Belley as the event's honorary chair.
He was teased on stage by City Councilor Rita Mercier + Mayor Daniel P. Rourke + City Manager Thomas Golden Jr. for his long work in music and community service.
🎓 Education
Lowell Public Schools and the city received approval from the Massachusetts School Building Authority to join the 2025 Accelerated Repair Program for essential repairs at eight schools.
The board voted on October 29 to support upgrades including roofs and windows—efforts expected to reduce costs and enhance safety for students and staff.
