BUSINESS NEWS

  • Arthur T. Demoulas issued a statement addressing the firings of three longtime Market Basket executives—Paul Quigley, Adam Deschene and Esteban Alvarez—after they were suspended in July for disruptive behavior, though he did not mention his own termination after being fired last week. The Market Basket Board of Directors has since named Don Mulligan as interim CEO to lead the chain.  Inside Lowell

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lowell City Council will meet in chambers Tuesday night to debate two contentious issues—one a petition by the Markley Group to install 16 diesel backup generators after four were approved and the other a proposal for harm reduction centers under House Bill 2196 aimed at preventing overdose deaths. Councilors, state lawmakers and local residents are expected to weigh public safety and environmental concerns as the debate unfolds.  Inside Lowell
