EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lowell Public Schools received $470,676 to support before and after-school programs at five district schools for the next three years through the federally funded 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Program—schools include McAuliffe, Shaughnessy, Lincoln, Butler, and Stoklosa. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A campaign finance report before the preliminary shows that Francisco Maldonado raised $30K with $20K from his own funds and spent $1900 on a sky banner—Councilor Chau spent over $11K on an event while Juran gathered $22,350 ahead of the election. The analysis noted that candidates received support from both in-district and out-of-district donors, making voter turnout a key factor in District 3.  Inside Lowell
  • Lowell City Council will review a motion to ban needle distribution and drug consumption programs within 1,000-foot of parks and schools—this measure is designed to keep children safe.
