COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Community Teamwork said its Head Start classrooms will remain open and its Home Energy Assistance Program will process all current applications for more than 9000 households this heating season despite federal office closures. The nonprofit serves over 1200 families with early care services & works with state and national partners to keep essential programs running. Inside Lowell
- ➤ The Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust will launch its whitewater rafting season on the Concord River next Saturday — April 19 — with trips at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays in May. Residents will enjoy a free rafting day with lunch on Sunday — April 27 — and have a chance to apply for scholarships and guide training. Inside Lowell

- ➤ Draper opened its new campus at UMass Lowell's LINC on April 8 with state and university leaders joining the open house. The company will expand its microelectronics work and team up with the school to boost local jobs. Inside Lowell
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Ernesto Lugo, Rachel Lugo and John Valdez visited Wellpoint Studios (to introduce the Tescobar Performance Center) that opened last November in the historic Crown Theater downtown. - ➤ After a winter of practices at The BRUCE (663 Lawrence Street) with over 6000 feet of turf and baseball cages, the Boomer Baseball season has launched with 11 teams from 9U to 17U competing in the Perfect Game New England League; non–high school teams will play spring tournaments while high school players compete for their schools and then join together for summer contests (the 17U team led by Kelvin Perez began with a 2-0 record).
