EDUCATION NEWS

  • Math Resource teacher Amilia Colon at Butler Middle School is boosting math learning and student confidence through programs like CHICAS—a Saturday program that helps Latina students learn math and science—and organizing STEAM night that drew over 300 families. She uses her classroom experience to guide school-wide teaching after coming to Lowell from Puerto Rico.  Inside Lowell
  • Lowell Public Schools announced three grants—worth over $83,000—to support science learning, teacher diversity, and career training in its schools. The awards will let Lincoln Elementary start a hands-on project program, Robinson Middle adopt a new science curriculum, and several schools add civic education programs.  Inside Lowell
  • UMass Lowell will host a free event on April 2 at 5:30 p.m. at O’Leary Library auditorium, Room 222 on its South Campus—where English professors and award-winning authors Maureen Stanton and Andre Dubus III will share their creative process and latest works with the campus and public.
