America’s Broken Health System:
Bad Markets, Poor Policy and Possible EconomicsSolutions
Professor Martin Gaynor , Carnegie Mellon University
• hosted by John Kwoka, Neal F. Finnegan Distinguished Professor of Economics
Everyone knows that America’s health care system is truly broken. Prof. Martin Gaynor has been at the forefront of economic analysis of these issues and the policies necessary to address them. This talk will address why the US has the most expensive health care system in the world, but not the best. Topics include the “integration myth” in health care: why the belief that integrating aspects of health care improves patient care and lowers costs isn’t correct, and how that belief is harming our health system. Prof. Gaynor will also address what health care competition and antitrust in health can and cannot do, and what public policies can give us a better health care system.
