About this event
Mystic favorites Linda Shoemaker and Louise Grasmere lead 125 singers in a program of energizing music from Africa ranging from simple call and response songs to full choral works at First Parish in Arlington on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Returning featured guests include fabulous vocalist, Yemisi Oluwole, leading several Yoruba songs from Nigeria, and much-loved-by-all accompanist/band leader, Donnell Patterson, who adds his special spark and stellar musicianship.
Come ready to immerse yourself in songs in many languages from many lands. The program includes Bele Mama , a beautiful round based on a Cameroon folk song about motherhood; Ukuthula , a moving Zulu anthem of peace; Ise Oluwa , a meditative Nigerian song of affirmation; a pan-African freedom song, Aluta Continue (“The Struggle Continues”), and more.
The singing and drumming are guaranteed to lift your spirits – don’t miss this!
Tickets (including fees): $31.50 live; $15.75 livestream; children 10 and under free- available at shop.mysticchorale.org.
