About this event

Join Lynn Museum & Arts Center on the second Wednesday of each month at noon for MESA (Museum Enrichment Series for All). This lecture series covers wellness, genealogy, and current events, featuring local experts, community members, Museum staff, and others. During the American Revolution, tens of thousands of enslaved and free Black people found their way to the British lines with the hope of liberty for themselves and their families. When the war ended, Loyalists, Black and White were evacuated by ship from New York to Nova Scotia for resettlement. Many faced hardship, discrimination and struggled to obtain land promised to them. Their descendants immigrated back to the US, particularly to Lynn, Massachusetts and other parts of the North Shore. Join us as Christle Rawlins-Jackson discusses the complexities and realities faced by Black people in America during the Revolutionary War and her family connection to it. This is a special edition of the M.E.S.A. program which celebrates Veterans Day and Revolution 250! The conversation will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, November 11th from noon to 1:00 p.m. Register for the Zoom link here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/qcQDPujeTr6xKxoQkruloA About the Speaker: Christle Rawlins-Jackson is a fiber and multimedia artist, poet, photographer and public historian. She currently is the Communications and Publications Manager at Community Church of Boston. She is a co-founder as well as the vice president of the quilt guild, Sisters In Stitches Joined By The Cloth whose mission is to uphold the tradition of African American quilt making and educate the general public about that history. She is the current president of The Beacon Hill Scholars; an organization dedicated to the preservation of the history of the Black abolitionists' community on Beacon Hill. Her work is inspired by time spent in West Africa, and researching the history of her ancestors. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Lynn Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
