Playing with Hebrew: Texts, literature, and Conversation

About this event

We will meet once a month for conversations in Hebrew through poetry, short stories, or excerpts from plays. Each session will introduce a short text that will serve as a starting point for discussion in Hebrew.

Moving between culture and language, between language and speech, between the sacred and the everyday (קודש לחול), and between Jerusalem and Washington, we will explore and play with words together.

The meeting is open to anyone with a basic level of Hebrew or higher who wishes to practice the language while also engaging with others, and with themselves, through and within the language.

Ran Bechor is an educator, Hebrew playwright, and theater director. He serves as the Artistic Director of Adam Theater, a nonprofit theater for young audiences.

Over the past three and a half years, he has taught Modern Hebrew at Harvard University. Earlier in his career, he was the principal of a school for gifted students in Jerusalem. He has written and directed several plays. His Boston production “Library Lion” (2026) is running for the third time and is scheduled to return in 2027.

He is a former fellow of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership and holds a B.A. in Philosophy and Theater, as well as an M.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Tel Aviv University. Following his graduate studies, he was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Social Studies.
