About this event

Whether in the words of famous Massachusetts abolitionists or in Black Americans’ naming conventions in the years of Reconstruction following the Civil War, the Haitian Revolution’s influence appears in many places—some expected, some surprising—throughout the history of the United States. Learn more about the connection between America and the Haitian Revolution, discover some of the meaningful comparisons between the two, and gain a deeper understanding of this relationship’s impact on freedom movements past and present.

Charlot Lucien, artist, history instructor, storyteller, founder and director of the Haitian Artists Assembly of Massachusetts, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute scholar at UMass Boston.
