About this event

Engaged learners attend more consistently, participate more actively, and make greater progress. This session explores why engagement is essential to successful adult learning and introduces low-prep techniques teachers can use to increase participation, energy, and connection in 1-1 or group classes.

About the presenter:

Leanne Chacon is the Director or Curriculum and Training at Intercambio. She oversees the development of all of Intercambio's adult English language materials and was one of the writers of Intercambio's Confidence and Connections books. She also leads the overarching strategy and implementation of all initial and ongoing training and teaching support for volunteer teachers across all of Intercambio's programs, as well as for teachers and administrators affiliated with member organizations of the national Intercambio Network.

Prior to joining Intercambio, Leanne spent several years teaching English and coordinating language and culture programs at the U.S.-Chile binational center in Santiago, Chile, and worked as a press translator for the English language website of the national Chilean newspaper, El Mercurio. After her time in Chile, Leanne worked as the Director of International Affairs for a private, nonprofit university in Puerto Rico. Leanne completed her undergraduate degree in Spanish for the Professions at the University of Colorado at Boulder and holds a Master of Education in Global Studies in Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
