About this event
Early 20th-century Israel was a wild scene. The 2nd Aliyah brought young idealists from Russia and Eastern Europe, escaping persecution but also intoxicated with radical ideas of what their new home could and should be. A clash between these new-world athiest punks and the old-world haredi establishment was inevitable, with the future at stake.
Rav Kook's ability to integrate the raw vigor of the "punks" of his generation with the structures of traditional orthodoxy was based on a radical mystical theology of the Infinitude of God. He knew that God is in everything, even (or especially) the "punks" and any deviation from that belief was tantamount to idolatry. The implications of this theology are incredibly disruptive.
