Cooking for a Cause: EmpowerHER – Girls Stir Change

The Melrose Commission on Women (MCW) is sponsoring EmpowerHER – Girls Stir Change, bringing together The Kitchen and RESPOND for a hands-on cooking-for-a-cause program that gives local teen girls an opportunity to learn, connect and give back.

The event will take place on Tuesday, November 10 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at The Kitchen in Melrose and is open to teenage girls. MCW is covering the cost of the program, including dinner and refreshments, ingredients, cooking instruction and packaging. Participation is free, but registration is required to secure a spot. If you are unable to make it, please let us know so we can fill the spot with another registrant.

During the evening, girls will work with a professional chef to prepare and package meals for RESPOND, which supports survivors of domestic violence and their families throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

The partnership brings together three community organizations with complementary roles: MCW provides the sponsorship and community connection, The Kitchen provides the cooking experience and expertise, and RESPOND provides the service connection and receives the meals.

A RESPOND representative will speak with participants about the organization’s work before the girls get cooking. Together, they will prepare approximately 100 meals to support families served by RESPOND.

Space is limited! The event also qualifies for community service credit at the high school.
