As part of Brandeis University’s Post-Baccalaureate Lecture Series, artist Alison Croney Moses will present a lecture on her sculptural practice and the ideas that shape her work. Trained in furniture design, Moses brings woodworking and craft traditions into a deeply personal practice centered on family, identity, Black motherhood, care, and community. Using techniques such as coopering and bent lamination, she transforms wood into sensuous, curving forms that evoke the body, shelter, protection, and touch.

Through her lecture, Moses will offer insight into how lived experience, material, and making come together in her work, from reflections on pregnancy, childbirth, and caregiving to broader questions of belonging, healing, and connection. The program offers a chance to hear directly from the artist and to consider how contemporary craft can become a powerful vehicle for storytelling, memory, and social meaning.
