About this event

Traditional engineering relies on orderly, sequential assem bly - a method that completely breaks down at the microscopic level due to unceasing fluctuations. In his lecture as the inaugural holder of the Soffer Endowed Chair in Engineering Science, Professor W. Benjamin Rogers will describe how we can use lessons from nature's playbook to establish new engineering principles for manufacturing at the smallest scales. Throughout the talk, Professor Rogers will emphasize how blending ideas from different fields is critical to advancing the most exciting scientific frontiers. It is exactly this interdisciplinary approach to problem solving that he hopes to instill in students through Brandeis’ new Engineering Science major.
