About this event

The BIG Teen Media screening will feature a short film, and two documentaries, all written and produced by Brookline teens, plus a Q&A with producers.

Please join us for the 2026 Youth Media Showcase!

This year’s new films:

• Eye to Eye (Short Film)

• The Outdoor Adventure Club (Documentary)

• Newcomers and Neighbors: How Diversity Shapes Brookline (Documentary)

As BIG Media Apprentices, teens are hired to learn professional media skills on the job. As short film producers, they create a budget, write a screenplay, and work on a professional film set. Documentarians tell hyperlocal stories about Brookline’s cultural centers, mom-and-pop businesses, and civic driven inquiries into topics like town government and immigration.

More about the films:

Eye to Eye

In this short narrative film, produced by BIG’s Cinema Apprentices, things get out of hand when Stevie inadvertently puts a mysterious curse on her ex-boyfriend, Tyler. With Tyler now a social pariah, can his best friend, Brick, help him lift the curse and win Stevie back?

The Outdoor Adventure Club

BIG’s award winning teen film director, Derek Matos Huertas, goes white water rafting with Brookline High’s Outdoor Adventure Club. Through interviews with club founder Paul Epstein, Derek explores the club's evolution over the years and its impact on teens in this exciting and moving documentary short.

Newcomers and Neighbors: How Diversity Shapes Brookline

This short documentary explores the racial and immigrant identity in the town and schools of Brookline. Through interviews with local students, administrators, and experts, it investigates the effectiveness of support systems the town has historically offered to immigrants and people of color, including the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) and newer establishments like the Asian American Pacific Islander Leadership and Affinity Program (LEAP).
